March In Southfield Honors Dr. King Birthday
DETROIT (WWJ) - Big tribute in motion Monday in Southfield to honor the legacy of Dr. King.
WWJ Newsradio 950's Ron Dewey reports that over 3,000 people took part in the march from Hope United Methodist Church to the Southfield Pavilion to pay tribute to Dr. King.
Local NAACP President Dr. Janice Crawford Butler is organizing the effort and it means a lot to her.
"We can drink from any fountian, we can go to any show, we can hold hands and not be worried about who sees black or white people together. We are truely a people coming together ," said Crawford.
Southfield was the first city to hold a march in 1986 - it's the first national observence of Martin Luther King birthday.
