Man, Woman Get Life In Michigan Double Murder
JACKSON (AP) - A 34-year-old man and 22-year-old woman have been sentenced to life in prison for murdering two men whose bodies were found in a burning car at a Michigan waterfowl preserve.
Authorities say the woman used an offer of sex to set up an ambush.
A Jackson County Circuit Court jury found Michigan Center residents Richard Janish and Barbara Mercer guilty of second-degree murder, acquitting them of first-degree murder and conspiracy.
Judge Thomas Wilson sentenced them Thursday.
The bodies of Anthony D. Hannah and Shemel Thomas were found Oct. 31, 2011, at Schlee Waterfowl Preserve in Grass Lake Township, near Jackson. They had been shot to death.
Sheriff Steve Rand says Hannah and Thomas had long criminal records and had served time for drug convictions.
