Man With Bloody Mattress Guilty Of Gun Crime
GRAND RAPIDS (AP) - A western Michigan man found with a bloody mattress in his pickup truck has pleaded guilty to a gun charge and could be facing a long prison sentence.
Harold Ordway of Barry County pleaded guilty Friday to being a felon in possession of a firearm. Police last year discovered the mattress after a crash while authorities were also investigating the disappearance of two men who knew Ordway.
Michael VanBuskirk's body was subsequently found in Kalamazoo County. Ordway hasn't been charged with crimes related to the men. But federal prosecutors in Grand Rapids could seek more than 15 years in prison for the gun crime if they believe the weapon was used in a homicide.
A judge declined to settle the sentencing guidelines before the guilty plea.
