Man Who Twice Escaped Jail Arrested Again
DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - A fugitive who escaped from jails in both Michigan and Arizona this year has been arrested in Mexico.
Authorities say 34-year-old Rocky Marquez broke out of a Phoenix jail in May when he shaved his head, changed clothes and switched identification cards with another inmate scheduled for release.
A nationwide manhunt ended in January with his arrest in Detroit. But Marquez used the same identity-switch to escape again, this time from Michigan's Wayne County Jail.
The Marshals Service said Marquez promised to reward fellow inmate Adrian Rivera in the future. if he agreed to exchange identity bracelets. But now Rivera is in more hot water -- charged with assisting Marquez' escape.
Marquez faces a laundry list charges including fraud, forgery, money laundering, witness tampering, suspicion of perjury, felony criminal damage, misconduct involving weapons, driving under the influence, failure to stop, misdemeanor criminal damage and marijuana possession.
