Man Who Thought Victims Were Morphing Into Werewolves Gets 2 Life Sentences
MASON, Mich. (WWJ/AP) - A 35-year-old man found guilty but mentally ill in the fatal shootings of two people in East Lansing has been sent to prison with no chance for parole.
Ricard Taylor appeared earlier this week in an Ingham County courtroom, telling the judge he's "profoundly sorry" about causing the deaths of 27-year-old Jordan Rogers, his neighbor, and 35-year-old Michael Addo, a pharmacist. He was convicted in May on two counts of first-degree murder and five weapons charges.
Taylor told mental health experts that he believed the victims were morphing into werewolves shortly before the shooting in May 2014. Addo was killed at a Rite Aid store, while Rogers was killed in his East Lansing home.
A Lansing police detective testified that Taylor told investigators he didn't like Addo's answers to questions about side effects from over-the-counter eye drops. He said Rogers was shot and killed minutes after Addo was slain.
A verdict of guilty but mentally ill qualifies Taylor for mental health care in prison.
