Man Who Killed Carjacking Suspect Being Hailed As Hero
Residents in a west side Detroit neighborhood say the driver who shot and killed a would-be carjacker Tuesday night is a hero.
The attendant at the Citgo gas station on Fenkell and Schaefer is among those calling the man who shot and killed the attempted carjacker a hero.
The victim pulled up to the pump at the gas station and his wife went inside while their child stayed inside the Cadillac Escalade. That's when the suspect pulled a gun and demanded the SUV. The two got into a gunfight with over two dozen shots being fired. When the smoke cleared, the suspect was dead and the victim had gunshot wounds to the leg, hip and face.
A regular customer, who only wanted to be identified as Jeff, told WWJ's City Beat reporter Vickie Thomas, ""I'm glad there's one more off the street. I'm glad. I got no remorse for him. And, I don't think anybody should be charged. He was protecting his family and his property."
Detroiter Stephanie Robinson, who frequents the area, agrees.
"He was protecting his family, and himself, so no. [The carjacker] picked the wrong one that day," she said.
The victim was hospitalized, and at last word, was reported in stable condition. His wife and child weren't hurt.
