Man Wanted For 1990 Army Base Shooting Captured In Detroit
DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - Authorities say a man wanted for a 1990 shooting on an Army base in Colorado has been captured in Detroit.
The U.S. Marshals Service says 44-year-old Maurice Crutchfield was caught Thursday hiding in a house on Detroit's east side.
Crutchfield is accused of firing six rounds into a group people while stationed at Fort Carson in 1990. He was charged with conspiracy to willfully discharge a firearm as to endanger life by the U.S. Army, but U.S. Marshals say he abandoned his post.
U.S. Marshals say Crutchfield was using a fake name -- Shawrun Bishop -- before his capture.
"He was alerted that we were closing in on him. He had moved a few times, changing spots," Robert Watson, with the U.S. Marshals, told the Detroit Free Press.
Crutchfield remains in custody. He's facing extradition.
