Man To Stand Trial In Macomb County Toddler's Death
ROMEO (WWJ/AP) - A 26-year-old man has been ordered to stand trial in the beating death of his girlfriend's 2-year-old son.
Romeo District Court Judge Dennis LeDuc on Wednesday bound Ronald Dimambro over to Macomb County Circuit Court on felony murder and first-degree child abuse charges in the slaying of Damian Sutton.
Damian suffered head injuries on Aug. 21 in Washington Township, about 30 miles north of Detroit.
Dimambro was babysitting Damian at the time for the boy's mother, Nicole Sutton. The toddler died six days later.
Family members said at first, they thought the toddler had fallen out of a playpen — but they quickly became suspicious. Macomb County Sheriff Anthony Wickersham said Dimambro, who eventually turned himself in, admitted that he shook the boy roughly and then threw him.
While Damien was still on life support, Sutton said she believed Dimambro deliberately injured the boy over jealously.
Dimambro will be arraigned Nov. 25 in Mount Clemens. If convicted as charged, he faces life in prison.
