Man Survives Plunge Over Niagara Falls

NEW YORK (WWJ/AP) - A man in his 40's plunged over Niagara Falls and survived - only the third person known to have gone over without a safety device and live.

Witnesses reported seeing the man climb over a railing and "jump" into the Niagara River, above the Horseshoe Falls.

The man was rescued from the water about two hours later.

The last person to go over the Falls and survive was a 30-year-old Canadian man in 2009.

In 2003, Kirk Jones, from Canton, Michigan, survived his plunge over the falls - Jones jumped into the waters on the Canadian side of the falls known as the Canadian Horseshoe Falls.

Although Jones survived the fall, he was charged in a Canadian court on a felony count of stunting.

In 1960, a seven year-old was swept over the falls wearing a life jacket and survived.
