Man Stabbed During St. Patrick's Day Celebration At Dooley's Irish Tavern
STERLING HEIGHTS (WWJ) - Authorities say a St. Patrick's Day celebration at an Irish pub in Macomb County turned violent, with one man stabbed and another under arrest.
The incident happened around 10:30 p.m. Thursday at Dooley's Irish Tavern on Hall Road just east of Van Dyke Freeway.
According to police, a 48-year-old Royal Oak man and 49-year-old Rochester Hills woman were at the bar when they befriended another couple, a 34-year-old Harrison Township man and an unknown female. Both couples shared a table where all four were sitting during the evening.
At some point, the Rochester Hills woman got up from the table and left her purse unattended. Police say the Harrison Township man capitalized on the situation and stole the woman's cash and credit cards.
When the woman and her friend realized what happened, the Royal Oak man confronted his new acquaintance and an altercation ensued. During the fight, police say the Harrison Township man pulled out a pocket knife and stabbed the other man in the left arm and chest.
The Royal Oak man was transported to Henry Ford Macomb Hospital where he was treated for serious but non-life threatening injuries.
The suspect was taken into custody at the scene. The knife allegedly used in the attack was later recovered by police inside the restaurant. He's expected to be arraigned on felonious assault and larceny charges Friday afternoon.
Police say alcohol is believed to be a factor in the incident, which remains under investigation.
"It should be noted and thanks given to the citizens and Dooley's security that intervened, preventing this incident from becoming a tragedy," police said in a statement.
