Man Shot During Home Invasion In Southwest Detroit
DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit police are on the hunt for two men in connection with a home invasion on the city's southwest side.
The incident happened around 2 a.m. Wednesday along Casper Street near Michigan Avenue, in a neighborhood near I-94 and Lonyo Avenue.
Several people were inside the house when the suspects barged in. One of the suspects opened fire, striking a 47-year-old man. He was taken to a local hospital with a gunshot wound to the hand.
No other injuries were reported.
Police say they don't have much to go on at this point -- they're not sure of a possible motive, and they don't know what the suspects look like.
"Apparently from what we've heard from the family of the victim, somebody walked into the house while he was asleep and shot him and ran out," said Sgt. Cecil Stevens.
Family members at the scene told WWJ's Mike Campbell they're "shocked" because this type of crime doesn't happen in their neighborhood.
"We don't know why, we don't know who, and there's no rhyme or reason so it's really confusing as to what's going on," said Bryan Thuen, who lives in the home. "You know, this isn't the best neighborhood in the world but we've got a lot of families that live on this block. We all look out for each other, you know, there's no bad blood. We're just all good neighbors, a bunch of family people."
An investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to contact police at 313-267-4600.
