Man Selects Candy Bar, Demands Cash In Dollar Store Robbery
DEARBORN HEIGHTS (WWJ) - A Detroit man has been charged with armed robbery after police say he stole a candy bar and some cash from a Dearborn Heights dollar store.
Police said at around 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dearborn police responded to the area of the Dollar General store on Wyoming near Diversey on report of a robbery which had just occurred.
Employees reported that a man, later identified as 53 year-old Donald Johnson of Detroit, entered the store, chose a candy bar, and then demanded all of the money in the cash register.
Police said Johnson also stated he had a gun and would open fire if his demands were not met.
Johnson fled then left the store but was quickly arrested when responding offices spotted him running away from the scene.
Johnson was arraigned Wednesday afternoon 19th District Court.
"Armed Robbery is a violent crime and the Dearborn Police Department utilizes all available resources to bring the perpetrators of such crimes to justice," said Dearborn Police Chief Ronald Haddad, in a statement. "This type of criminal activity will not be tolerated in this city."
Police want to make it clear that this robbery is in no way related to a recent incident at Michigan Ave. Family Dollar store, in nearby Dearborn, in which two people were killed. (For information about that story, CLICK HERE).
