Man Robbed By Masked Carjackers On Detroit's West Side
DETROIT (WWJ) - A man was robbed of his money, jewelry and even his clothing after being carjacked by two masked men on Detroit's west side.
Police said the incident happened around 2:45 a.m. Tuesday when the 33-year-old victim was stopped at a traffic light at Vaughan Street and Hessel Avenue.
As the man was waiting for the light to turn, police said two black males approached the vehicle, one wearing a ski mask and the other wearing a Jason Halloween mask, and said "Don't move." Police said the suspects forced the victim to the back of the vehicle, covered him with a blanket and hit him with something.
The victim told police he doesn't recall seeing a weapon, but thought the suspects were armed.
According to police, the suspects made the victim remove his pants, which contained $2,500 in cash, his shirt, shoes, gold bracelet and watch.
The suspects then drove the victim to Hubbell Street near Norfolk Street, where police said they got into an unknown vehicle and fled the scene. The victim was then able to escape and call police.
An area resident, who did not want to be named, said crime in her neighborhood is just getting out of hand.
"They done broke into here twice and I don't want to be up in here and somebody's lurking around out here or something else is going on," she said.
The woman told WWJ's Mike Campbell she feels like a target because the suspects keep getting away with their crimes.
"They came back a week later and took everything just about out of here. I feel that they're going to come back because they left my freezer and my washer sitting by the stairs, like they was trying to take that out of here and didn't have time or got scared off," she said.
