Man Rescued From Car Stuck On Wire
SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) - It was a bizarre sight for motorists Tuesday on Northwestern Highway at Franklin in Southfield when a car ran up a wire leading to a utility pole.
Southfield Battalion Chief Keith Rowley told WWJ Newsradio 950's Sandra McNeill the car's undercarriage was balanced on the wire, with the front tires dangling about 10 feet off the ground.
Rowely said it appeared the driver, an elderly man, was leaving a bank when he drove over the grass and up the wire that stablizes the utility pole.
"A lot of times things like this could be somebody with diabetes or having a sugar problem. It's hard to say right now why he drove down on the grass," said Rowely.
Rowely said firefighters rescued the man from the elevated vehicle.
"The wire is in the perfect position on the car. It's right in the center of the car. Had it been a little bit either way it would have rolled and it would have been on its side or on its roof," he said
The driver was not hurt in the incident.
