Man Pleads To Shooting 3-Year-Old Girl In Detroit
DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - A man has pleaded guilty to charges related to the shooting of a 3-year-old girl in Detroit last month.
The Wayne County prosecutor's office says 20-year-old Vernon Ray Coles on Wednesday entered guilty pleas to assault with intent to murder and felony firearm.
Police say Amyria Parham was shot outside of a home on Cardoni Street after a neighborhood dispute escalated. She was taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds to the chest, arm and leg but later was released.
"Regardless of what the altercation was, there is no excuse for what happened. There is no excuse for a 3-year-old being shot," said Detroit Police Chief Ralph Godbee, following the incident.
Coles is to be sentenced on Oct. 12.
