Man Pleads No-Contest In Fatal Nightclub Shooting

SOUTHFIELD (WWJ/AP) - Police say a man accused of killing a woman when he fired shots into a Southfield night club has pleaded no-contest to second-degree murder.

Thirty-four-year-old Deangelo Eady made the plea Wednesday in Oakland County Circuit Court in Pontiac in the death of 33-year-old Nicole Riggs, of Oak Park.

The charges stem from a shooting that took place in the early morning hours of March 31, 2013 at Myst Ultra Lounge on Franklin Road and Northwestern Highway.

When police arrived on the scene, they found Riggs inside the club suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. She was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.

According to police, several subjects were ejected from the club following an altercation inside, and one of those people was overheard threatening to return with a weapon. A short time later, shots were fired from the parking lot into the club. Riggs was killed by one of these gunshots.

Eady was named a person of interest shortly after the shooting and was eventually captured in June 2013 after eluding officers for months.

Eady faces up to life in prison at his sentencing May 13. A no-contest plea isn't an admission of guilt but is treated as such for sentencing purposes.
