Man Pleads Guilty To 1991 Killing At Arab Community Center
DEARBORN (WWJ/AP) - A 45-year-old Florida man has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the 1991 rape and killing of a mother of five at a suburban Detroit social agency where both of them worked.
Dearborn police say that Kelly M. Brady of Fort Pierce, Fla., made the plea Monday in Wayne County Circuit Court. Brady originally was charged with first-degree murder.
Gracielita Flores was working as a custodian at the Arab Community Center for Economic and Social Services (ACCESS) in Dearborn when she was killed July 12, 1991.
Police say Brady, who live in Dearborn at the time and was also an ACCESS janitor, was attempting to rob the place when he murdered Flores and then fled the state.
The case remained unsolved until police say Brady confessed in 2012.
A plea deal calls for Judge Gregory Bell to sentence him Dec. 4 to 30 to 60 years in prison.
"This was a most unspeakable crime," said Dearborn Police Chief Ronald Haddad in a statement. "I am confident that justice will be served."
