Man Missing After Trip To Western Michigan

SCOTTSVILLE (WWJ) - A former Oakland County man who recently traveled to Michigan to visit his girlfriend has disappeared.

According to police, 47-year-old James "Jym" Brittain drove to Scottsville, Michigan, which is south of Traverse City. Following his Michigan stop he was supposed to travel back home to Tennessee, but never arrived.  Family members last heard from him on April 18 and they're concerned because he's someone who is normally in continuous contact by phone and online.

Police in Michigan and Tennessee are investigating.

However, Ludington  Chief Mark Barnett said they don't suspect foul play.

"It's my understanding that he has some things going on in his personal life that could very well explain it -- relationship sort of things -- that may have something to do with it," Barnett said. "And there might be some other issues that he has decided not to go right back home."

Barnett said Brittain is married and his wife lives in Tennessee.

Brittain is described as around 6' tall with brown hair and blue eyes. He drives a late-model lime green Kia Soal with unknown Oklahoma plates.

Anyone with any information regarding the whereabouts of Brittain is asked to contact Officer Angela Babinec of the Scottville Police Department at 231-757-4729, the Maury County Sheriff's Department at 931-380-5725, or the Silent Observer at 888-786-7274.
