Man Killed, Kids Hurt In Shooting Outside Party Store
PONTIAC (WWJ) - A 4th of July shooting outside a Pontiac liquor store left one man dead and six other people injured — including two children.
Oakland County Sheriff's Officials said what began a festive gathering to watch fireworks outside the Perry Palace Party Store, north of downtown, quickly turned tragic Thursday night.
Deputies said a few hundred people were on site when, shortly after 11 p.m., a fight broke out. A man pulled a handgun and began firing into the crowd, striking a dad, his two kids, and four other people.
The 33-year-old father, who was shot in the head, was transported to McLaren Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Officials said the suspect, a 35-year-old man, fled the area on foot but was arrested early Friday morning at his home after he was identified by several witnesses.
A 6-year-old boy was shot in the head — but he is expected to be OK. His 12-year-old sister was treated for a minor injury and released.
Also injured were two 22-year-old Pontiac women who were shot in the legs. A 28-year-old Pontiac man was shot once in the hip and forearm, and a 23-year-old Pontiac man was shot in the leg.
Early Friday morning, only the 23-year-old man and the 6-year-old boy remained hospitalized. Both were reported in stable condition.
It's unknown of the man killed was the intended target. Authorities are reviewing security footage as an investigation continues.
No names were immediately released.
