Man Killed In Police Chase Crash

Kalamazoo police say a 19-year-old Kalamazoo man was fleeing police when his vehicle ran a red light and struck another car, killing a 45-year-old married father of three children.

The Kalamazoo Gazette and WWMT-TV say 45-year-old Brian James Arra of Portage was killed about 10 p.m. Tuesday when his car was struck on the driver's side.

Police said the unidentified suspect fled from police after an officer tried to stop him for having improper license plates. Public Safety Chief Jeff Hadley said the officer did not pursue the vehicle and no other officers made contact with the vehicle prior to the crash.

Police say the suspect was treated at a hospital and will face charges of fleeing and eluding police, causing death, and driving without a license, causing death.
