Man Killed In Ann Arbor Construction Accident
ANN ARBOR (WWJ) - A 57-year-old man has died after an excavator rolled over him.
WWJ Newsradio 950 spoke with Derrick Jackson at the Wayne County Sheriff's Office who said it happened just before 2 p.m. Tuesday at a park in Ann Arbor. The man was part of a crew working on a creek restoration project.
"The crane driver was excavating some park land at our County Farm Park, right on Washtenaw Avenue in the city of Ann Arbor. And somehow during this tragic accident he actually ran over a fellow co-worker," Jackson said.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene. His name will be released after his family is notified.
The equipment belongs to Mead Brothers Excavating, based in Springport, Michigan. The company was awarded a $2.2 million county contract to do the excavation work.
"There's a large area of the park where they were kind of excavating, removing some of the trees for drainage purposes ... It was a drain commission project," Jackson said.
That section of the park is closed off for an investigation.
