Man Jailed On Drunken Driving Charge After Fatal Crash
CLINTON TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - A 39-year-old Clinton Township man faces up to 15 years in prison, charged in an alleged drunken driving crash that killed another motorist.
According to Macomb County Sheriff Anthony Wickersham, an intoxicated Oren Eker Brown was at fault in the death of 64-year-old Gayle Naiman of St. Clair Shores.
Brown was driving a 2004 Ford conversion van and was travelling south on Groesbeck Highway at 7:20 p.m .Saturday evening. According to witness, he disregarded a red traffic signal and struck a 2004 Chrysler PT Cruiser that was travelling eastbound on Cass Ave.
Authorities said Naiman, who was driving that Cruiser, was killed instantly and pronounced dead at the scene.
Brown has two previous convictions for drinking and driving-related crimes, and, according to Wickersham, an investigation determined that alcohol was a factor in Saturday's crash.
Brown was treated for minor injuries, released from the hospital, taken to the Macomb County Jail.
He was arraigned in the 41B District Court of Clinton Township Tuesday afternoon on a charge of operating while intoxicated causing death. Bond was set at $300,000/10 percent.
