Man Indicted In Detroit Makes FBI's 'Most Wanted Terrorists'
DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - A suspected terrorist indicted in Detroit two years ago has been added to the FBI's list of Most Wanted Terrorists.
An indictment has been unsealed in federal court in Detroit charging Lebanese-born man Faouzi Mohamad Ayoub with passport fraud in an attempt to gain entry into Israel and conduct a bombing on behalf of the Islamic militant group Hezbollah.
The U.S. government classifies Hezbollah as a terrorist group. It's also a leading force in the Lebanese government coalition.
The 44-year-old Ayoub was indicted in August 2009 and charged with using a passport under the name of Frank Mariano Boschi to enter Israel in October 2000.
The FBI's listing says Ayoub "willfully and knowingly used and attempted to use a false, forged, or counterfeit United States Passport in order to gain admittance into the state of Israel for the purpose of conducting a bombing on behalf of the designated foreign terrorist organization Hizbullah." Authorities say Ayoub should be considered armed and dangerous.
Hezbollah fought a devastating, 34-day war with Israel in 2006 that left 1,200 Lebanese and 160 Israelis dead. Lebanon and Israel technically remain at war.
Ayoub (pictured above) is described as 5'7" tall, 169 pounds, with a medium build, black hair and brown eyes.
The feds say he has several aliases.
