3 Men In Custody, Hamtramck Women Still Missing
HAMTRAMCK (WWJ) - Police say three people involved in the abduction of two women in Hamtramck are in custody.
Police say 25-year-old Brandon Cain was arrested in Detroit, 24-year-old Bryant Lee was arrested at his girlfriend's home in Pontiac and 34-year-old Andre Todd-Douglas turned himself in to Hamtramck Police -- all in connection with the disappearance of 18-year old Abreeya Brown and 21-year-old Ashley Conaway.
Investigators say the girls were forced into the trunk of a silver sedan around 10 p.m. Tuesday on Andrus Street, near Jos Campau and St. Aubin. Brown's father said he exchanged gunfire with the suspects prior to the women's abduction.
Detectives believe the abduction could be tied to a shooting that took place on February 7. Police say Cain was apparently trying to get the women, one who was a witness and one who was a victim of the shooting, not to testify against him.
Police said when they arrived at the home, they found multiple shell casings and Brown's vehicle still running with both of its doors left open. Her purse was on the ground. One of the women reportedly sent text messages to a relative saying they were in trouble but had no idea where they were, and that Cain was one of the people responsible.
A car fitting the description was found burned out in Detroit, but there was no sign of the women.
"We still haven't located any additional information on the whereabouts of the two victims at this point. Basically, most of the investigators involved here have been working 30 straight hours, so we're going to take a few hours off and get back at it," said Hamtramck Police Detective George Voight.
Hamtramck, Detroit, Michigan State Police, the FBI and U.S. Marshals are involved in the search.
