Man Hides In Back Seat At Detroit Gas Station, Robs Senior Citizen At Gunpoint

DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit police say a 63-year-old man got the scare of a lifetime when he returned to his vehicle at a gas station and found an armed robber hiding in his back seat.

The incident happened just after 5 a.m. Wednesday at the Marathon gas station on Fenkell Street and Asbury Park, between the Southfield Freeway and Greenfield road on the city's west side.

The victim told police he went inside the gas station, purchased cigarettes and then returned to his vehicle. Once the victim sat down, an unknown man who was hiding in the back seat placed a gun to his head and demanded money, according to police.

As the victim reached into his pockets, a second suspect allegedly approached the vehicle and told the victim to place his hands on the dashboard. The second suspect then reached into the victim's pockets, police said, taking $120 in cash and a wallet.

The crooks then hopped into a dark gray Chrysler, where a third suspect was waiting. The vehicle fled eastbound on Fenkell Street.

All three suspects are described as black males in their 20s. A detailed description was only provided for one suspect. He's described as about 5'9" tall and 130 lbs. with short hair and wearing a yellow and gray shirt.

Anyone with information is urged to contact police at 313-267-4600 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
