Man Gets 20-60 Years In Fatal Nightclub Shooting
PONTIAC (WWJ/AP) - A 34-year-old Southfield man will spend 20 to 60 years in prison for the murder of a 33-year-old woman at a suburban nightclub.
Deangelo Eady was sentenced Tuesday in Oakland County Circuit Court in Pontiac. Eady had earlier pleaded no-contest to second-degree murder in the March 2013 shooting that killed Nicole Riggs at the Myst Ultra Lounge in Southfield.
When police arrived on the scene, at Franklin Road and Northwestern Highway, they found Riggs inside the club suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. She was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.
According to police, several subjects were ejected from the club following an altercation inside, and one of those people was overheard threatening to return with a weapon. A short time later, shots were fired from the parking lot into the club. Riggs was killed by one of these gunshots.
Eady was named a person of interest shortly after the shooting and was eventually captured in June 2013 after eluding officers for months.
Late last years, Riggs' family filed a lawsuit against the club, accusing the owners and operators of negligence and failing to keep the area reasonably safe, according to the Oakland Press. The case is expected to go to trial in September.
