Man Found Living With Woman's Corpse In Trailer
REDFORD TOWNSHIP (WWJ/AP) - Police say a 64-year-old metro Detroit man is jailed after living several months in a trailer home with a woman's corpse.
Dennis McCauley was arraigned Friday on charges that he failed to report a death, mutilation of a corpse, larceny, uttering and publishing, and identity theft.
"All of the Social Security checks were coming to the trailer, and they both resided there ... and the transactions from the State of Michigan have to do with a Michigan Bridge card," said Redford Police Sgt. Kevin Crittenden, adding that the case was certainly "outside the norm."
McCauley was arrested Monday at Long's Mobile Home Court in Wayne County's Redford Township, west of Detroit.
Crittenden said a court officer saw a woman's remains on a sofa after going to the trailer to serve an eviction. The woman is identified as 72-year-old Ann Marquis, who is believed to have died in November.
Preliminary autopsy results reveal she died of natural causes.
Police said they believe McCauley lived with Marquis for about three years.
McCauley's bond was 250,000. He didn't have an attorney Friday.
This incident follows a similar one last year in which a Jackson woman, for months, kept her friend's dead body clean and dressed in the home they shared. Linda Chase, 72, said she was lonely, so she talked to the corpse while watching NASCAR on TV. She admitted to cashing that man's benefit checks and pleaded guilty to fraud in a deal with prosecutors.
