Man Found Guilty In 4-Year-Old's Fatal Beating
PORT HURON (WWJ/AP) - A jury has found a man guilty of first-degree murder for beating a 4-year-old Flint-area boy to death after the child wet his pants.
Brandon Hayes was tried in Port Huron in St. Clair County because Genesee County officials couldn't seat a jury there.
Jurors reached a verdict Thursday. Hayes faces sentencing Feb. 27. First-degree murder carries a mandatory penalty of life in prison without possibility of parole.
Dominick Calhoun of Argentine Township was killed in April 2010.
Dominick died a day after being found unconscious. Medical experts who testified at the trial described the boy's injuries as "horrendous," saying he was battered from his "head to the soles of his feet."
His mother Corrine Baker pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and child abuse in the death.
