Man Facing Life Behind Bars Over Failed Bank Robbery
CANTON (WWJ) - A 26-year-old Canton man could end up spending the rest of his life behind bars after authorities say he attempted to rob a bank in Canton.
Damon Ross Davis, Jr. was arraigned Monday on charges of bank robbery and armed robbery in connection with the January 14 incident. He was ordered held on a $1 million bond ahead of a preliminary examination on February 19.
Police say Davis was wearing a facemask when he walked into the Citizens Bank on the corner of Ford and Haggerty roads around 9:15 a.m. and announced a holdup.
According to police, Davis presented a note to the teller demanding cash and a vehicle. When the teller refused to comply, police say Davis exited the bank, removed his mask and fled on foot.
Davis was arrested following a comprehensive investigation which included the Michigan State Police and the Western-Wayne Community Response Team, a multi-jurisdictional task force that provides resources to participating agencies working large cases.
If convicted as charged, Davis could be sentenced to any number of years in prison up to life.
