Man Faces Charges After Not Informing Partner He's HIV Positive
REDFORD TWP. (WWJ/AP) - A circuit court arraignment has been rescheduled for a man charged with having sex with a person without revealing his HIV-positive status.
The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office says Tyrone Pugh's new court date is April 17. He's charged with three counts of having sex with an uninformed partner. The charge carries a four-year penalty upon conviction.
Prosecutors say a 43-year-old woman told police in Redford Township in January that she and the 39-year-old Pugh had a sexual relationship while he was HIV positive. Pugh was arrested in February.
Court-appointed defense attorney Rita White says the charges against Pugh "are pending and we're going to see how we proceed on the 17th."
Pugh has already pleaded guilty to a similar charge in Washtenaw County in February. He's expected to be sentenced in that case on May 1.
Pugh's wife told WJBK-TV that her husband never revealed his illness and she had found out she had the disease back in 2000 during a routine pregnancy checkup. Pugh's wife claims he was unfaithful during their marriage, and multiple other women could be infected.
