Man Escapes Burning Pontiac Apartment Without Injury
PONTIAC (WWJ) - Investigators are looking for the cause of an early morning fire in Pontiac that sent man running for his life.
The fire took off around 5:25 a.m. Tuesday at a tax business with an upstairs apartment, located on Joslyn Road at 1st Avenue.
Waterford Regional Fire Deputy Chief Matt Covey said a 64-year-old man was sleeping inside when the fire broke out. He woke up to heavy smoke filling his apartment and called 911.
"It was occupied upon our fire crews' arrival, the guy had made it out just prior to us getting here," Covey told WWJ's Mike Campbell. "No one was injured. Flames were reported by multiple people driving by."
The man was treated by paramedics at the scene for minor symptoms of smoke inhalation.
Covey said a cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Joslyn Road was briefly closed as firefighters extinguished the blaze. The road has since reopened.
