Man Competent For Trial In Billiard Player's Death

ANN ARBOR (WWJ/AP) - An Ann Arbor-area man accused of killing a competitive billiards player and dumping her body in an Indiana pond has been found competent to stand trial.

AnnArbor.com reports a judge made the ruling Tuesday in the case of Gregory Noack, who is charged with murder in the slaying of Dawn Fital. The case had been on hold while experts considered 44-year-old Noack's mental competency.

Noack is due back in court on the case Oct. 28.

The day after 45-year-old Fital was reported missing, police arrested Noack behind a bank in Merrillville, Ind. Two days after his arrest, he led police to Fital's body, which was found stuffed in a suitcase in a Hobart, Ind., pond on June 16. Noack was her live-in boyfriend, and they both worked at a Walmart store.

Authorities believe Fital was killed in Michigan before her body was taken to Indiana. An autopsy by the Lake County coroner's office found that Fital died from asphyxiation, and ruled her death an apparent homicide.

Fital lived with Noack and her ex-husband at an apartment complex  in Washtenaw County's Pittsfield Township. She played in many billiards tournaments and won $600 in Las Vegas just days before she died.
