Man Charged In Shooting Over Family Feud
WARREN (WWJ) - A Warren man is facing charges, including attempted murder, after an argument between two families erupted in gunfire earlier this week.
Police say one of the accused gunmen, 57-year-old John Colvin, was arraigned Wednesday on charges of assault with intent to commit murder and possession of a firearm while committing a felony.
WWJ's Rob Sanford reports the shooting happened June 11 outside of a home on Eastwood, near Schoenherr and Eight Mile roads, as an argument broke out between two families.
Police say the incident began just after 8 p.m., when a caller, Colvin, told them a 35-year-old armed man was confronting him about their children not getting along.
The man who was allegedly armed left before officers arrived, so they tracked him down. When police questioned the man, he denied being armed, saying he merely complained that the other man's children were "running wild with no supervision," The Daily Tribune reported.
After police left, the younger man allegedly went back to Colvin's home where a fight broke out between groups of people from both families. That's when police say Colvin fired five shots from a .22-caliber rifle at the 35-year-old neighbor, striking him in the chest, groin and both arms.
As the injured man fell, police say he was able to fire off some shots of his own, but no one was hit. The man was taken to the hospital and was last reported in stable condition.
Police say an investigation is ongoing, as they continue to interview witnesses.
Colvin is due back in court for a preliminary hearing on June 26.
