Man Charged In Shooting Of Highland Park Mayor
DETROIT (WW/AP) - A 25-year-old man has been charged in the shooting of Highland Park Mayor DeAndre Windom at a nightclub.
The Wayne County prosecutor's office announced Tuesday that Jair A. Harris of Eastpointe faces charges including felonious assault, carrying a concealed weapon and careless discharge of a firearm causing injury.
Police said Windom was an innocent bystander when he was wounded at the Key Club shortly before 2 a.m. on Nov. 17. That's not too far from downtown Detroit.
Police said another group, not connected to Windom, got into an altercation and Windom was shot in his leg.
Windom was treated at a local hospital and released.
No one else was hurt.
Harris is due in court Tuesday afternoon for an arraignment. The prosecutor's office says it didn't know if he had a lawyer yet.
