Man Charged In Post-Fireworks Shootings In Pontiac
PONTIAC (WWJ/AP) - A man has been charged with murder in the fatal shooting of a 33-year-old who was among hundreds of other people gathered at a Pontiac party store to watch workers light fireworks.
The Oakland County Sheriff's Office said Robert Marion Naylor was arraigned Saturday in Pontiac District Court. Naylor, who is being held at the Oakland County jail without bond, faces 14 counts -- including second-degree murder, attempted murder and felon in possession of a firearm.
Wilfred Lee Donaldson was shot in the head and killed, and five others were hurt in the shootings that happened late Thursday night outside the Perry Palace Party Store.
Deputies said a few hundred people were gathered outside when, shortly after 11 p.m., a fight broke out. Police say that's when Naylor pulled a handgun and began firing into the crowd, striking a Donaldson, his two kids, and four other people.
Police say Naylor immediately fled the area on foot but was arrested early Friday morning at his home after he was identified by several witnesses.
It's unknown of the man killed was the intended target. Authorities are reviewing security footage as an investigation continues.
