Man Charged In Fatal Shooting Over iPhone, iPad
PONTIAC (WWJ/AP) - Authorities say a 19-year-old man has been charged with first-degree murder in the shooting of a 22-year-old man in Pontiac during a robbery where an iPhone and iPad were taken.
Dajuan Burks of Pontiac was arraigned by video link Wednesday in the killing of Montonez Whitehead. He faces first-degree murder and two felony firearms charges.
Authorities say Whitehead was walking home from his job at McDonald's around 10 p.m. on March 16 when he was shot several times and killed at the intersection of Whittemore and Francis streets.
In court, Oakland County Sheriff's Detective Jeff Buchmann said several witnesses indicated the shooter was Burks. It was several days later when another person told officers he was given an iPhone by Burks for some tattoos, the Oakland Press reported.
Buchmann said the serial number on that iPhone matched the serial number of Whitehead's phone.
The U.S. Marshals Service helped local authorities arrest Burks in Detroit.
Burks was ordered held without bond.
