Man Charged In Fatal Shooting At Northern Michigan Bar

WEST BRANCH, Mich. (AP) — Authorities in the northern Lower Peninsula have filed a murder charge against a 34-year-old ex-con in the shooting death of a 23-year-old man outside a bar over the weekend.

Patrick Sourander of Prudenville was arraigned Monday in West Branch District Court on charges of second-degree murder, being a felon in possession of a firearm and possessing a firearm while committing a felony.

A judge ordered Sourander held on a $1 million bond until his probable cause hearing Dec. 1. It's unknown if he has a lawyer.

Authorities say the killing happened about 2:30 p.m. Saturday outside Loggers Depot, a bar and restaurant in West Branch.

Police say Brett Ritter was pronounced dead at West Branch Regional Medical Center.

Prison records show Sourander has convictions for drugs, burglary and home invasion.
