Man Charged In Drive-By Shooting That Killed Preteen
DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - A man has been charged in a weekend drive-by shooting in Detroit that killed a 12-year-old boy and wounded another man.
The Wayne County prosecutor's office says 33-year-old Alvin D. Conwell of Detroit is charged with first-degree murder and, two counts of assault with intent to murder and using a firearm during a felony.
The shooting happened early Saturday morning in the 1400 block of Rutherford Street, near Schoolcraft and Greenfield roads on the city's west side.
Kenis Green Jr.'s mother has said that he was sitting outside a house with other family members — just after 1 a.m. — while celebrating a relative's birthday when the boy was shot in the head.
The prosecutor's office says the shooting followed a dispute between Conwell and Owens, who was also wounded.
Owenes remained hospitalized on Friday.
Conwell is expected to be arraigned at in 36th District court Friday afternoon.
A message seeking information on whether Conwell has a lawyer was sent to the prosecutor's office.
