Man Charged In Detroit Apartment Building Arson
DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - A 32-year-old man arrested in Kentucky faces charges in a Detroit apartment building fire that forced seven people to leap from second-floor windows to the ground to escape smoke and flames.
The Wayne County prosecutor's office in Detroit says Terrell Thornton was arraigned Tuesday in Detroit's 36th District Court on seven counts of assault with intent to murder and one count of arson.
He was ordered jailed pending a May 14 preliminary examination. It's unclear if Thornton has a lawyer.
Thornton was charged Aug. 15 and arrested over the weekend in Morehead, Ky.
A multi-unit building on Springle Street, near Mack and Conner on the city's east side, was set on fire on Aug. 9. Some of the victims suffered burns. Others were injured from their falls.
