Man Charged In Dearborn Murder After 21 Years
DETROIT (WWJ) - A Florida man was arraigned Wednesday, charged with a crime dating back more than 20 years.
In May, 45-year-old Kelly Michael Brady confessed to the sexual assault and murder of Gracielita Flores to police in Florida, where he currently lives. He has been extradited to Michigan and is being charged with one account of first degree murder and two accounts of felony murder by Judge William Hultgren in Dearborn's 19th District Court.
Flores, a mother of five, was killed while working at the Access Center in Dearborn's south-end on July 12, 1991. After an investigation, no arrests were made and the case went cold.
Cathy Vasquez, Flores' daughter, said seeing Brady in court was a painful experience.
"It does bring up a lot of the past," she said. "You cry, and all of those emotions seem to come back."
Despite Brady's confession, Vasquez isn't breathing a sigh of relief just yet.
"At this point he's a suspect," she said. "We don't know if this is really the person. We're just gonna have to wait and see what happens."
Brady's preliminary exam is scheduled for June 22.
