Man Charged In Corktown Inn Slaying
DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - A 27-year-old man has been charged in the slaying of a woman in her Detroit motel room.
The Wayne County prosecutor's office said Monday that Dajuan Lee Ainsworth faces first-degree murder and other charges.
Relatives identified 21-year-old Ninoshka Nieves-Figueroa as the woman shot to death April 19 at the Corktown Inn, a 140-room motel on Trumbull, about seven block south of old Tigers Stadium
Police have said an arrest was made Friday in Highland Park after they released a security camera photo of a man they were seeking to question. Longtime hotel owner Chester Mirowski has said the man in the picture came in and asked for the woman's room just before the shooting.
Investigators believe the suspect may have been targeting women he met online. According to reports, police are working a theory that the suspect trolled certain websites' escort sections and set-up women to meet and then rob.
A citizen tip led to Ainsworth's arrest on Saturday. The prosecutor's office said it wasn't aware Monday morning whether he had a lawyer.
Family members said Nieves-Figueroa left behind two young children.
