Man Charged In 3 Oakland County Robberies
FARMINGTON HILLS (WWJ) - Police say a 23-year-old mid-Michigan man has been arrested in connection with multiple robberies that occurred in Oakland County.
Jared Douglas Spencer, of Gladwin, has been charged with one count of armed robbery in Farmington Hills, one count of unarmed robbery in Novi, one count of unarmed robbery in Lyon Township, and one count of carrying a dangerous weapon with unlawful intent. He's due back in court on July 17 for a pre-exam conference. If convicted as charged, Spencer faces up to life in prison.
Police say Spencer entered the CVS Pharmacy at 9 Mile and Haggerty roads in Farmington Hills around 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday and after asking the employee for several different brands of cigarettes, demanded money from the cash register. He then fled from the store with several cartons of cigarettes and cash.
Later that day, Spencer was arrested by officers from the Wixom Police Department for an unrelated incident of loitering near a cash advance store within their city.
Recognizing Spencer from a suspect bulletin issued by the Farmington Hills Police Department, Wixom police notified officers that their suspect was in custody. Further investigation determined that Spencer was involved in similar robberies of a 7-Eleven store in Novi and a CVS Pharmacy in Lyon Township.
Farmington Hills Police Chief Chuck Nebus credited the officers of the Wixom Police Department for their attentiveness in identifying Spencer as being involved in the Farmington Hills robbery.
