Man Arrested For Sex Assault, Home Invasions Eyed In Several Other Crimes
WATERFORD TWP. (WWJ) - Police say a 27-year-old man who was arrested on a criminal sexual conduct complaint has been tied to several home invasions in Waterford Township.
Adam Serwicki, of Hartland, was arraigned Wednesday in 51st District Court on charges of first degree criminal sexual conduct, first degree home invasion, and second degree home invasion. Serwicki was given a $75,000 cash bond and is currently lodged at the Oakland County Jail.
Police say the charges stem from several incidents, the first of which happened on June 28 at a home in the 6600 block of Pontiac Lake Road.
Police say they were called to the home around 5:30 p.m. after the homeowner realized he had been burglarized. The man told police someone had entered his home by breaking open a basement window sometime between 10:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m, and made off with all of his jewelry, as well as his thyroid medication.
While speaking with several witnesses at the scene, officers were provided with the description of a suspicious vehicle that was seen at the residence around 1:30 p.m. that day. The vehicle, described as a 90's blue Dodge Ram pickup truck with yellow paint splatters, was later located by officers patrolling the nearby River's Edge apartment complex in the 600 block of Glenbrooke Street.
Officers spoke with the 20-year-old fiancé of the vehicle's owner, who said the truck had been parked all day and was having mechanical issues. The fiancé further told police that the vehicle's owner, later identified as Serwicki, was at work and had been there since noon.
Unable to make contact with Serwicki, officers completed their preliminary investigation and turned their findings over to Waterford police investigators for follow-up. Those investigators later learned that the fiancé had lied about the truck, as well as Serwicki's whereabouts.
Then, around 11 a.m. on July 8, officers responded to a home in the 5200 block of Lynsue Lane for a criminal sexual conduct complaint. Arriving officers spoke with the mother of the victim, who said her 24-year-old daughter had been home alone between 7:45 and 10 a.m. when an unknown white male came to the door asking if she had seen his dog.
The victim's mother told police that her daughter, wanting to help, allowed the suspect into the house. Once inside the house, the suspect allegedly forced the woman to perform oral sex on him before making a phone call and leaving the house.
The mother further told police that she later found several pieces of jewelry missing, as well as a distinctive coin saving jar containing an unknown amount of money.
Waterford police investigators who were called to the scene quickly identified the suspect as the owner of the blue Dodge Ram pickup used the home invasion on Pontiac Lake Road just weeks earlier -- Serwicki.
Investigators then returned to the apartment complex where Serwicki lives with his fiancé and placed him under arrest. Police say Serwicki was in possession of the coin saving jar and jewelry taken from the Lynsue residence, as well as suspected heroin.
"I want to remind the public that suspects will often use a ruse such as a lost animal, vehicle breakdown or dead cell phone battery in order to gain entry to your home. If you're not sure who is at your door, don't open it. Ask questions from the inside of the locked door and contact the police department about anyone suspicious in your neighborhood," Police Chief Dan McCaw said in a statement.
The first degree home invasion charge against Serwicki relates to the incident on Lynsue, while the second degree home invasion charge relates to the incident on Pontiac Lake Road.
Police say Serwicki is the primary suspect in several other home invasions in the area which remain under investigation. Anyone with information about those incidents, is asked to contact Waterford Police Detective Larry Novak at 248-618-7515.
