Man Arrested After Stealing $12K Watch, Biting Officer At Somerset Collection
TROY (WWJ) - Police in Troy say a 19-year-old man was arrested at the Somerset Collection after stealing a $12,000 watch, biting a loss prevention officer and showering a store security guard with pepper spray.
Dequan Williams, of Detroit, was arraigned Friday on one count of armed robbery and ordered held on a $200,000 bond.
Police say the incident happened just before 4 p.m. Thursday at Saks Fifth Avenue on West Big Beaver Road.
A store employee told police that Williams approached the sales counter and asked to see a $12,000 Cartier watch. Police say Williams offered a fraudulent driver's license as identification, which was accepted by the employee, who then handed Williams the watch.
When Williams had the watch partially on his wrist, police say he fled from the sales counter.
A loss prevention officer and store security guard ran after Williams and attempted to apprehend him. During a struggle, police say Williams bit the loss prevention officer and sprayed both men with red pepper spray in an attempt to evade capture.
The loss prevention officer and security guard were eventually able to detain Williams until police arrived and placed him under arrest.
