Man Arrested After Southfield Mayoral Candidate's Yard Sign Is Vandalized
SOUTHFIELD (AP) — A 44-year-old suburban Detroit man has been arrested in connection with damage done to an election campaign yard sign.
Police say the man, a Southfield resident, was seen by officers about 1 a.m. Friday vandalizing a sign promoting a candidate in the city's upcoming mayoral election.
A folding knife, rubber mallet, flashlight and compass were found in the man's possession.
Police say the man could face a charge of willful and malicious destruction of property. A warrant could be presented to prosecutors Friday or Saturday.
Officers in Southfield's Tactical Crime Suppression Unit were conducting surveillance in the area, north of Detroit, after several reports of similar vandalism.
