Man Arrested After Robbing Same Bank Twice
WASHINGTON TWP. (WWJ) - A serial crook who was at large for several weeks was apprehended in Macomb County after robbing the same bank twice.
Macomb County Sheriff Anthony Wickersham say the 57-year-old Royal Oak suspect was taken into custody Saturday night in Mount Clemens after robbing the same bank he took cash from last month.
"The suspect actually went back to the same bank in Washington Township that he robbed back on May 29... He had basically the same M.O. He walked into the bank, gave the teller a note, implied that he had a weapon and requested cash," said Wickersham.
"They did provide him an undisclosed amount of money, but a customer who obviously observed what was going on follow him out into the parking lot, and that was the break that we needed," he continued.
Wickersham said the customer actually wrestled with the suspect outside of the bank on Van Dyke near 30 Mile Road, before securing his license plate number and calling police.
"We don't encourage the public to get involved in confrontations with robbers who could be potentially armed. In this case, nobody got hurt, it worked out and we were able to identify the suspect and make an arrest," he said.
Wickersham said the suspect is also being investigated for possibly robbing banks in Warren area as well.
The man's identity was not immediately released. Charges are pending.
