Man Arrested After Firing Stolen Gun Down Macomb County Streets
MOUNT CLEMENS (WWJ) - Police say a 34-year-old man was arrested after he was seen walking around Macomb County streets firing what turned out to be a stolen gun.
Joseph Devoy, of Clinton Township, was arraigned Wednesday in 41B District Court on multiple charges, including receiving and concealing firearms (10-year felony), felon in possession of firearms (5-year felony), assaulting/resisting/obstructing causing injury to a police officer (4-year felony) and reckless use of a firearm (90-day misdemeanor).
Devoy was released after posting a $10,000 cash-surety bond.
Police say they responded to New Street in Mount Clemens for a disturbance complaint around 1:15 a.m. Tuesday. According to police, a witness told them they observed a man -- later identified as Devoy -- who fired shots as he walked down the street.
The caller provided Devoy's description and what he was wearing while several deputies responded to the area. Devoy was located but when confronted, police say he began running across yards and over fences. Eventually, after a foot chase and the deployment of a conducted electronic weapon, Devoy was arrested.
Using a K-9 unit, deputies were able to locate a .380 caliber Ruger handgun lying on the front lawn of a residence on Hubbard Street. Deputies also discovered three bullet holes in a van as well as another bullet hole in a street sign, along with the spent cartridges.
A subsequent check of the handgun revealed that it had been reported stolen to the Michigan State Police in June of this year.
