Man Arrested After Armed Standoff At Pontiac Home
PONTIAC (WWJ) - A man who allegedly barricaded himself and two kids in a Pontiac home while armed with a knife is now in police custody.
It happened on Johnson Street at Pinegrove, near Cesar Chavez, Tuesday morning.
Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard said the authorities were called to the scene on reports of a fight.
"Apparently he was in some kind of altercation with his brother and it had escalated, and car windows were smashed out...and screaming, things like that," Bouchard said.
When a SWAT team arrived, Bouchard said, the man took two hostages and threatened suicide.
"He had barricaded himself into a bedroom and had taken two small children with him and a knife...and thorough the wall and through the door was expressing really kind of the mentality that he felt his life had come to end for whatever reason." Bouchard said. "I guess because he presumes or assumes he's going to go back to prison."
No one was injured and police were eventually able to convince the suspect to come out and put down his weapon.
The man's name was not immediately released. Charges are pending.
