Man Accused Of Impregnating 11-Year-Old Will Go To Trial
MOUNT CLEMENS (WWJ) - The Macomb County man accused of getting an 11-year old girl pregnant has been ordered to stand trial.
A judge has determined there is enough evidence against 28-year-old Trevaun Brooks, who was in court Wednesday for a probable cause hearing.
Brooks is accused of raping and impregnating his ex-girlfriend's young daughter. Police say Brooks worked briefly at the Mount Clemens charter school where the girl attended class, and that he also lived with her at her mother's Mount Clemens home.
Brooks' attorney, Chris Aiello, said the trial will likely get underway early next year.
"We will attend the arraignment in the circuit court on November 21st and enter a plea of not guilty at that time, and start to acquire any additional evidence that has not been given to us and prepare for trial," said Aiello.
Aiello said his client is distraught and caught in the middle of an unfortunate situation.
"He walks and talks just like me, you know, he's distraught, he's in an unfortunate position," said Aiello.
The girl, who is now 12-years-old and delivered a baby boy in August, testified at Wednesday's hearing, as the courtroom was closed to the public. The girl and her child are in the care of Child Protective Services.
Brooks, who has pled not guilty, remains jailed on $1 million bond. If convicted, he could face up to life in prison.
