Man Accused Of Impregnating 11-Year-Old Girl Arrested
MOUNT CLEMENS (WWJ) - The Macomb County man accused of raping and impregnating an 11-year-old girl will be arraigned Tuesday after being arrested in Warren.
Macomb County Sheriff Anthony Wickersham said 28-year-old Trevaun Cortez Brooks was apprehended Monday arround 5:30 p.m. at the Warren home of his new girlfriend.
"He was not armed. He put up some mild resistance but he was taken into custody," Wickersham said. "Our investigators did talk to him and he did make some admissions. I'm not going to elaborate on that right at this point."
Police say Brooks worked briefly at the Mount Clemens charter school where the girl attended class, and he also lived with her at her Mount Clemens home.
"Trevaun was in a dating relationship with our victim's mother. He did live inside the apartment with them for a period of time, and that's when this assault occurred," Wickersham said.
The girl is now 12-years-old and delivered a baby last month. Wickersham said the young mother and her baby boy are together with Child Protective Services.
Wickersham said the department had been looking for Brooks for weeks, and credits his team for their tireless efforts in tracking down the suspect.
"I put all the credit into the Sheriff's Enforcement Team. Since we obtained a warrant from the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office, they hit the streets, they were pounding on doors, talking to family members, people in the community, using some of our informants... and they sacrificed their Labor Day weekend to find him."
Brooks is facing charges of first and second degree criminal sexual conduct with a person under 13. If convicted, he could face up to life in prison.
